overgrown gsp beak

I thought two of them were sabahensis (Giant spotted Puffers) puffers..so I put in two regular GSPs to enhance the difference..

Unfortunately the two saba looking puffers in the video passed on, they came from bad circumstances and had the best last few weeks of their lives..

It was a shame I thought they were in the clear, but it was not meant to be..

Now, a few weeks after they died some people at Walmart gave me a few dying GSPs

and two that survived that batch are somewhat Saba looking puffers...and they are doing great!..So it worked out in the end...

ahh, i'm sorry to hear about those ones. i'm glad you were able to make the last of it good for them. yeah, my puffers came from walmart. i make it a point to not buy fish from walmart [they're typically sickly or diseased, and are also treated poorly, since walmart isn't an actual fish store and really doesn't know the requirements for all fish, whether or not they want to treat them correctly, and i just try to not encourage walmart fish], but my brother had bought them because they seemed "cool" and threw them into my mom's community tank, which they quickly discovered was a no-no. none of the fish got hurt, but they were out of there very quickly. my brother had them for a few days and then decided he didn't want them and told me i had to take them or he'd flush them. which is why they really don't have a proper setup at the moment, just a light brackish water, not quite as much as they should have. anyway, they're doing great for now, i really hope i can get them a real setup soon.

okay, so i got some krill today, and i gave them a little. they love it, and even with the overgrown teeth, little twee is able to take chunks out of the krill, so it's looking good for him to be able to wear it back down. so i'll keep watching and see what happens :]

here are some of m puffers taking on a mussel...they are not used to being together, I made this video to get a puffer ID

You can see how tough they get with jerking the food out

Aww they are adorable. Sorry to hear you lost a couple of them. All puffers are adorable. I wish you the best with the new ones :)

just read through this thread.

A couple words of caution: 1) no-no to clove oil. If you are going to put the puffer under look for MS-222 aka finquel. 2) The technique described by Purplecandle was used with South American Puffers. GSP's are much larger, stronger and have thicker teeth. Cuticle cutters would be recommended as is putting the fish under.

Sorry Purple, didn't mean to step on any toes ;)

There is this song...I am not sure if you are old enough to get the reference...

It goes.."He's so vain, he probably thinks this song is about him":headbang2

Ok, Yes, I was thinking of your silly saps at the time I wrote what I did, But i have read of others being able to trim teeth without sedatives. However, those people did seem to have "the gift" if ya know what I am saying. I just threw it out there as an option...

My apologies....

I have just never heard it done before on a GSP ... is it possible you can ref that thread?

p.s. yes I know the song ;) haha I'll leave it at that..(don't want to give away my true age) :D
