African Cichlids

They are colorful but they have nothing in the way of personality compared to SA or CA cichlids.

Sadly this, sold off my GT FM and con to get africans b/c I thought I wanted the color, miss my other guys now even though the GT was skittish...

Selling the africans to get into big guys again, I like the bigger fish too

Africans are boring... I have this friend that is always *****ing because I prefer "average, less colorful fish" over an african setup but I'd never trade any of my CA/SA for an african tank even if they paid me. Other than color I don't see anything interesting about them.

Plus many healthy adult SA/CA specimens can put your average LFS african to shame, with twice as much personality... and size. ;-D

dovii and africans..

i've always thought africans were pretty boring..kept them twice and sold them off within a few weeks.

dovii..one of my 4" usually peaceful indo dats beat the life out of a very aggressive 5" dovii yesterday..0_o

going away from cichlids, i think the whole Tor fad was and is lame..

I would say Dovii, not because there's anything wrong with them but every new commer wants one and most can't house them long term. They have become almost cliche.

So you only get fish that are not cliche? there are billions of hobbyist out there everything is CLICHE..... Dovii is a wonderful fish weather its cliche or not it has nothing to do with what a fish is like.

I agree with Africans but there's also a CA/SA cichlid that I found to be way overhyped and that's **gasp** oscars. I've kept them a couple of different times and I just don't get what all the hype is about. Each time I had one I wound up getting rid of it after a short time.

Oscars, everytime I tell people I have aggressive fish they always say, "You should get Oscars, they are the meanest fish".

Red Texas, everyone was blown away by a beautiful one just to find out that its one in a million. And that 'one' cost about a million, lol

For me personally it's beani. I don't think they're that attractive in general. After hearing all the hype I was expecting to be blown away, but they didn't look like anything special. Take that with a grain of salt, though -- I'm the guy jonesing for Heroina even though they're a plain Jane little SA, kind of like the severum's ugly stepchild. lol

I also never hopped aboard the CA train. I see a lot of people get excited about CA for two reasons: size ("tankbuster" status) and aggression. This has never been a deciding factor for me when I keep fish. So I stick to my acara/Heros type SAs.
