OXFAM: "100 richest people could end world poverty"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
from OP's quote to describe the super rich:

an international criminal network of money launderers, drug traffickers, shylocks and murderers with influential ties to the highest levels of government and industry

A whole new thread could be started on this entitled, "History of the C.I.A.".
But, C.I.A. aside, there is a booming corporate intelligence industry that employs data analysts, field investigators, spies and surveillance technologies.
There are numerous murders and assassination linked directly to the C.I.A. In addition, there are scores of suspicious or inconclusive suicides, plane crashes and the like.
Here's an interesting case of an Enron executive who was found dead with a shot to the head. Due to testify for congress on the Enron case. Never got the chance. Ruled a suicide.

And this could go on all day, trust and believe.

I think this is a better place for talk like this...

I said "suspicious or inconclusive". I didn't say they were abducted by U.F.O.'s or disappeared by the illuminati. For the type of organized criminal organization I'm referring to, think
Iran-Contra http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB2/nsaebb2.htm ,
the BCCI scandal http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3383461.stm,
the LIBOR scandal http://www.moneytalksnews.com/2012/07/23/libor-scandal-of-the-century/
or any number of exposed covert dealings, hinting towards a deeply elaborate organization of individuals operating under the radar of the public.

Well, Teddy Roosevelt (who I quoted earlier in the thread) is a pretty darn good example :)

Matt

And where Matt, beyond EA Johnson's writings ( in paper everything seems logical and feasible ) have you seen that put in practice?

Any sort of "powers that be" really interested, genuinely involved, in applying those measures?

What is your point?

Having enough disposable income to have fish tanks is a far cry from being in the 100 people who made $240B last year...

Those people don't buy fish...they buy Presidential candidates and freedom from regulation!

Think that if Sheldon Adelson or George Soros or the Koch brothers wanted to have a fish tank with Asian Arowanas that they could ensure that laws were changed?

...Or that clean air standards remain below what scientists recommend is safe?

Matt

Like it or not, you are one of the few that has gathered wealth, if you include all the people in the world, Matt.

My point is that when you go down this road, you'll be surprised who will be considered "rich".

Being there, done that, Not interested...even at a price of having a small number of super rich folks(which you are going to have anyway no matter what system you go to anyway).

No, education is not a right. My parents came to states with $200. My dad was a grad student and my mom worked as a house cleaner with work permit. Total household income around 20k a year. With no public assistance, they saved enough money in 7 years to put me through college without any debt.

My cloth were from Kmart, no real Christmas or birthday gifts no car in high school, no dates either, but a college education I got; and no debt afterwards.

People who complain of poverty and
hardship in the western country for the most part do not impress me. Sorry.

20 k is a lot more than most of us get on social security.... as a matter of fact 3 people can make ends meet rather comfortably on 20k ...if the money isnt wasted.... try this on for size.... $890 per month .....by yourself.... no support system other than that.... how you going to make rent in an apt. pay utilities .,..eat... not to mention phone, cable and misc. expenses.... this is what uncle sam thinks is ok for s.s. recipients and SOME polititions think needs to be trimmed to balance the budget ... can anyone say.....THIS IS FAIR ... to people who are "playing by the rules"

"Rich" is of course a relative term. Most of the world can live "well" on an amount of money that wouldn't support survival in the US or other industrialized nations.

But that's missing the point.

The idea that having the high concentration of wealth that we have today is somehow normal or inevitable...is just not historically supported.

It is abnormal. Aberrant. Unusual. Unsustainable. And perhaps indicative of deeper economic and social issues.
