The fact that China is spending money on the poorer countries should not be too surprising...money does buy influence...for the most part to counter taiwan's assertion to international recognition of independence. To those nation though, it's a pretty safe money to take. China does not have a track record to send her troops in small countries to topple governments that disagree with them ;)

I might be wrong but you seem awfully critical of one country you now live in and overly defensive of the other...

I sound the same to low information Chinese about American policies around the world. The charge there would be how dare I forget what I look like. You will just never hear them here. ;)

International policies between countries are awfully similar. People who like to lobe charges against one side or the other should look themselves in the mirror first.

Oh I see.I was just wondering why that thing about toppling countries even came up.True as that might be,the U.S. does not have a track record for using students and protestors,it's own citizens, as target practice.
 
Oh there were much more horrifying things done in the name of government in the past...like about 20-40 million people starved to death even though there was ample food storage...that happened in 1959-61.

1989 is an interesting case study on how economics can change certain things. I believe it will forever be a black spot on Deng's otherwise outstanding career. After June 4th, it was very apparent to the Chinese government that either the economics have to improve or the government will not hold on to the power; so the let certain people get rich first really got a boost; and the leftists were left in the dust.

As a result, the current generation of young Chinese don't particularly remember or care about the June 4th event; but their prosperity is indirectly caused by it. History will remember, and one day it will be rewritten in China; just like the various truth about nationalist's actions in WWII and misdeeds by Mao are coming out now.

The butchers will probably not be punished; but there are lots of things unpunished in the world. China does not need a revolution to right this wrong; the key is that the right path of economic freedom followed by relaxation of political freedom be observed.
 
Well if you really would like to level the playing field. You examine the illegal/immorally gained legacy wealth that a lot of the super rich enjoy. From the blood diamond trade, drug cartels, wall street banks to slave traders. For example There is no real accountability. what's a fine to a rich thief? If your were to take something like the rico laws but make that include white collar and social crimes then confiscate the ill gotten money and pour it in education and social infrastructure. Outlaw lobbying and remove corporations recognition as a people

Kent State springs to mind..." 4 dead in Ohio"......there have been others, especially during the civl rights struggle.

apparently we shall be judged according to how we treat the least amongst us.

I have no problem with mean testing punishment for certain crimes.
