P. brachyura - anyone lucky enough to have one?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow, T1 aiming for the projection prize today.....
IF you can't tell what a P14 will look like then its NOT a P14
:)
Leos, Henlii ,Motoros etc etc are ALL named for and identified first by their appearance.....

This must come from a expert who has kept many many p14 in his time

Lets face it If I said it was black you would say no its white I think you do it just to bait me but its cool

Some p14 take years to show there full potential

I have a 6 year old female that has just exploded with new spots they change all the time people just can't wait

Just like with bd no one can say for sure if a pup will turn thousand island or not

No ray is worth $1500 in my eyes just because the parents are nice is no guarantee the pups will be stunt you just increase you chances a bit

I like the spirit of the OP here, his enthusiasm as well. He is not arrogant like some fish keepers, and he has a thirst for nice fish. Many of the fish keeper here are mere followers, will never venture outside of the box. With that, there will never be any growth in the hobby. Some people will keep a few cichlids for the rest of their lives, and others will find new species to keep and to have.

Well said... Keep doing what your doing. People like you Wes keep alot of these fish around.. otherwise all we'de be able to get was cichlids :nono:

Who gives a rats arse what you paid for rays . Cheap rays are cheap nice rays are expensive. Just like cars and women and anything else .

There is a difference in getting what you pay for.. and knowing what your looking at when you see a diamond in the rough... and as a cheap woman.. I take offense to your comment  One of the attractions for my husband was the animals being my most expensive hobby.. not jewlery, shoes, and fancy clothes...

Materialism is for someone w/ a 1500$ ray in a 180 gallon tank.... who paid sticker price on the whole thing... and comes here to ask how to care for the fish...

The OP is deffinately outside of that shallow box.

Who cares who has the best looking rays its not a dog show to see who gets best in show

We all spend our money on what we want what some people like others hate like for me I wouldn't pay $10 for a bossani (spelt wrong) but others pay thousands

Its called personal taste if we all had $1500 bd the hobby would be boring

I agree with you partially, and know that you've done well in growing out and breeding your fish. I agree that its not 100% guaranteed that the pups will look like their parents, however nothing in life in a guarantee.

I disagree with your comment on how "this is not like a dog show" because it is, that is what drives people with excitement, to be able to produce higher quality, certain traits. Make more albino babies. This applies to all "animal" hobbies. I use to breed parrots, and we would try to make more blue babies, albino babies, whichever sold better or were more attractive in the "popular" view.

Sure, maybe you don't see the value in paying over $500 or $1000 for a fish, and I'm sure my dad will not either. At the same time, things are made more valuable due to certain characteristics, rarity of pattern, color, breed, numbers in the wild, difficulty to obtain or collect. Yes, nothing is worth $1000 then in your opinion, as rays are a pest in the wild, not even valued as food.

Those are skates generally, not rays., and too far off topic really

Well it says "ray wings" I didnt ask otherwise

prices for fish and what people are willing to pay is not really related to the topic started by this thread also :)

Please not one of these people who take offense because you've been given a slight angle. Don't take it personal my wife hates my stingray obsession and has nothing to do with them and as expensive with little to no hobbies . If she sufferd the same mental condition we all do (fish) I could not afford her :)

lol, takes alot more then what someone says on a public forum to ruffle my feathers usually. Humor is hard to translate threw text. my point being $$$ at the end of the day doesn't mean much if your happy with what you have. lol and thats the truth... my husband enjoys the fish and let me put a intex pool in the basement for them, But I'm the one who brings them all home.

regaurdless of how much you spend on a fish imo if your happy with your fish and what you spent on them.. i'm not going to say mine are better because i paid more, and if i agree i'll say they are pretty. but if i don't agree i'll say not my cup of tea. Some of the most expensive rays imo are just not my cup of tea.

Now whos got more pics for the OP? because i too wanna see them!
