That is a good looking fish. It almost looks like it has a little jag in him somewhere along the line.:)

pure bred? i see some jag in him aswell, i'd be willing to bet he does, never seen a pure freddie look like that.

That freddy looks exactly like mine. So much so I did a double take when I first saw it. Freddies are supposed to have more of the missle-shaped Parachromis body than the loisellis. A lot of what gets called freddies around here look like loisellis to me. Case in point Terds. Sorry bro. :D

Thought I'd grab a quick pic of mine when I went out to do tank maintenance on the 230 (anything to avoid work). This is one of my males. He was 10" when I moved him a few weeks ago.

Back to your original post re: freddies vs. loiselli. IMO its no contest...freddies look infinitely better because they possess the true parachromis body shape. loiselli are too round for my tastes. I had a chance to get some of F1 P. loiselli "La Ciebas" when I had some dovii and red tiger motas flown in a few weeks ago but passed on them. It's really a matter of your own personal taste though. These fish can range from being as miserable as a jag to as mellow as an Oscar (like mine). I'd say pick your fish based on the appearance you prefer. Good luck.

I know, I go back and forth too. But in a thread a while ago with different pics in different light, the general consensus was freddy.

A rose by any other name....

Both your male and female are very nice specimens regardless of what you decide to call them. I've observed a lot of greyness in the differentiation of these two species online. If you happen to have the link to that thread I'd love to review it.

I'm still not convinced its a freddy after reading through that thread. Most people don't even attempt to justify why they think its a freddy. The body is more elongated than is typical for sure for a loiselli, but the other traits of the fish suggest (or scream) loiselli IMO. Personally, I think you are fortunate either way. If loiselli weren't short stubby little things that fail miserably to resemble the rest of the genus in outline I would have a few myself. Yours to me looks like a loiselli without the undesirable (to me) shape.
