I'm still not convinced its a freddy after reading through that thread. Most people don't even attempt to justify why they think its a freddy. The body is more elongated than is typical for sure for a loiselli, but the other traits of the fish suggest (or scream) loiselli IMO. Personally, I think you are fortunate either way. If loiselli weren't short stubby little things that fail miserably to resemble the rest of the genus in outline I would have a few myself. Yours to me looks like a loiselli without the undesirable (to me) shape.

Body shape is what makes believe it is a friedrichsthalii. I've seen lots of color variations with the friedrichsthaliis and loisellis. It's hard to tell them apart some times from just coloration. Either way, loiselli or freddy, he is an awesome fish.

terd, I still believe that your fish is a freddy/loisellei hybrid, for the reasons that I stated in your other thread.

pure bred? i see some jag in him aswell, i'd be willing to bet he does, never seen a pure freddie look like that.

Here is my freddy. I got him at what most people would say is the best LFS for Central/South American cichlids in western Washington. He shows this barred pattern most of the time, only showing the kind of pattern terd's "freddy" has when it is stressed (another reason I think terd's fish is a hybrid). Also, here is a link to a recent MFK thread showing many pure freddies that have the same jag-like barring as akirmish's freddy (my pictures are in that thread too). http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118320

people who are really into the hobby of cichlids or any fish would like to hear feedback from experienced members telling them if there fish is a hybrid or mis id'd (note this is a FORUM) that's what we do here.

as i stated in ak's thread in the photo lounge, look at the head or his freddy and look at the head of any true freddy, like from rapps. his freddy has typical body marking of freddies, yet the entire head has the facial markings and shape of an adult male jaguar. defo sigh of hybridism from my experience.

I'm still not convinced. Askirmishes fish has the sloped freddy shape, whereas jags have a more pointed noggin.

Here's jumbo:

He has a bit of a lump on his head, but it's not nearly as pronounced as in friedrichsthalii. All of the freddies I have seen have the bigger lump. I already provided a link with plenty of freddies that show what I am demonstrating, so I won't post a new freddy picture.

I don't disagree with what you've said. Like I said, I go back and forth on the ID between freddy and loiselli (which should probably point to a mix between the two).

Does anyone's freddy ( or loiselli) have red in the dorsal and tail fins? Mine does , and so does the confirmed female loiselli. This doesn't always show up in the photos.
