How do you keep P's with plants? my LPS says they will kill any algea eater i put in there eventually, so how do you care for your plants, clean them your self? thinking about jsut going all plastic...

theres more control to algae then just animals.. there is light control and other factors too. i personally use nerite snails which my rhom does care to eat

I had a 8" pleco with my p's for about a year until they ate it.... eventually your baby p's will grow and eat any pleco regardless as to how well fed you keep them

yea thats what i hear, okay well how do you care for live plants, also i know light factors and such, but im talking abotu controling the algea, obviously there will be some algea, i just wanna put in some moss on my driftwood, how do i go about cleaning it being i cant use algea sharks?

hmm i wonder if my LPS has them, not rly looking to get to many plants tho so i dunno if there will be enough algea for them to live off, just planning on a couple annibus and moss

Its pretty well impossible to keep low light, live plants and large fish all happy at the same time since the plants wont develop that great of root structure quick enough before the piranha run into it and knock it loose.

I had snails but they started eating massive holes in all my plants so I bought loaches to get rid of them. Now the loaches eat the remains of whatever meat products the p's miss so its pretty cool.

I ended up swapping up from 1 36 inch bulb to 2 48 inch T5 bulbs. The fish hate it but it really shows off the colors they have and its done wonders for the plants that now thrive even with the piranha bullying them. I get some really morbid alge growth now but the extra hour a week to clean it all up is well worth the plants IMO. I tried a pleco but it became food rather quick. Really dont get it when they leave the other fish alone.
