no, no different. lol, seriously, watch. People think piranhas are like MMA fighters....when they're more like WWE wrestlers. Look bad but they're just prima donnas that aren't going to hurt anyone. lol. Don't get me wrong, some people have some aggressive Ps but your shoal will probably always run away from your hands during maintenance.

You're talking like 5-7 years from now before they're 12 inches, i'm sure you'll see what i'm talking about by then.

damn how long does it take for full maturity?

I could be wrong on this one but i believe it's 2 years before they reach sexual maturity and can breed but you're lookin at an inch or so a year after they hit 5-7 inches. They'll be in that range after a year. That's why the big guys are so expensives. Takes forever to grow them that big. Personally i don't call them adults until they're 10+ inches.

off topic but do u know how long it takes to get convicts to full maturity currently there about an inch ?

You talking breeding or just growing small ones?

I've breed them myself and they'll breed small, like 3 inches. However, it'd take like 3-4 months to grow them to a decent 1.5 inch feeder. You basically need to dump them in the piranha tank in the first month so they can continue breeding you more or get a holding tank to grow the fry in.

I just saw that you said they're about an inch. I'd buy bigger ones to breed. Can you even tell that you got a male and female at that size?

heh yea but then all my p's will chow them if i dump in first month... also what is like chances of disese breeding your own fish, do you sitll need to quarintine after they hatch?

no, unless they get a disease in the tank you're breeding them in you're good. Don't cheap out on food with the breeding tank though. Your Ps will be reaping the reward of their stomach content.

You're right your Ps will eat them (our situation is different since mine are bigger) but with cover some can survive, your convicts won't breed again while there's babies still around.

what do you mean dont cheap out on breeders u mean feed them other stuff like raw chicken ect rather then just all breeders? not sure exactly what that last post meant

I meant make sure they're good quality flakes or pellets if that's what you're feeding them. It's really not a big deal but people always say "well fish eat fish in the wild". In the wild fish are gut loaded with nutritions and that can't be replicated in the home aquarium.
