PA Lawmakers Ban Almost All Pets With Bill

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First off, the paragraphs you are referring to have merely defined the animals as "exotic" animals. It has in no way made them "illegal" (or lega for that matter). Servals, hedgehogs etc may still be illegal if another law states so.

Problem I see with the bill is that anyone who possesses more than 1 "exotic" is considered an "exotic wildlife dealer" which is total b/s. Why can people have multiple dogs, horses or birds and be exempt? That's discrimination in its purest form.

Second if you read the bill, in order to have multiple animals or conduct more than 5 sales per year you will need a permit.(initially) After a certain date you will need a permit to own reptiles (or exotics) in general. (eg: a breeding, dealer/sales, or collection permit)

This bill is merely a push for private section to become listed, controlled and taxed. they aren't taking your ability to own the animals, they are making pay for the privledge.

Yes the bill sucks, but they are not taking your animals.

First, ryan savannahs must be f5.

Suzzuki, you didnt read the bill at all. If it passes after 1/1/2013 no permits will be issued. So all animals defined as exotic(all nonindenginous animal) will be banned. Please read the bill before trying to make us llook like idiots.

On top of that, do you know the permit process for an "exotic"? 2 years first hand care at an approved facility which there arnt many, an apptoved enclosure(which must be locked with the animal inside) and hope they will give u one.

Sigh all u want, ur wrong if u think this isnt basically a ban. Post those sections of the law of the permits you claim will be allowef

its still restrictions.(which I oppose) So rather than complain, why not list the people we need to contact. Post some ideas of valid reasons that people should not be required to have permits, why reptiles do not pose a threat to general society and why it would benefit our society (and economy) to promote the hobby rather than to hinder it.

Sorry, but would you mind saying that again?

"(c) Unlawful acts.--It is unlawful for any person to:
(1) [Possess, purchase or receive exotic wildlife] Keep exotic wildlife in captivity or have exotic wildlife in the person's custody or control, without first securing a permit [to possess exotic wildlife issued under this section or regulations pertaining to this section] issued by the commission as set forth in sections 2930, 2962 and 2964(a) or 58 Pa. Code § 147.302."

And I am assuming that you have never attempted to obtain one of these permits, have you? It's pretty near impossible for someone in the private sector to get one.

You beat me to it.

The regulations look like restrictions, but anyone with prior knowledge of the old system would know that it functions as a ban. The one part indicates that a private individual must already have a current permit in order to get the new final possession permit; anyone without one already is going to be screwed because it takes two years to get one under the old system. Furthermore, anyone with an animal that doesn't already require a permit yet is one of the regulated ones under the new law is pretty much screwed as well because of how they want you to have a permit in order to get a permit.

So does that mean Petsmart and Petco will have to liquidate over half of their stores?
