Sorry, but would you mind saying that again?

"(c) Unlawful acts.--It is unlawful for any person to:
(1) [Possess, purchase or receive exotic wildlife] Keep exotic wildlife in captivity or have exotic wildlife in the person's custody or control, without first securing a permit [to possess exotic wildlife issued under this section or regulations pertaining to this section] issued by the commission as set forth in sections 2930, 2962 and 2964(a) or 58 Pa. Code § 147.302."

And I am assuming that you have never attempted to obtain one of these permits, have you? It's pretty near impossible for someone in the private sector to get one.

You get them in harrisburg. Ask Vicious fish, he has one and says its wasn't hard at all to get.

You beat me to it.

The regulations look like restrictions, but anyone with prior knowledge of the old system would know that it functions as a ban. The one part indicates that a private individual must already have a current permit in order to get the new final possession permit; anyone without one already is going to be screwed because it takes two years to get one under the old system. Furthermore, anyone with an animal that doesn't already require a permit yet is one of the regulated ones under the new law is pretty much screwed as well because of how they want you to have a permit in order to get a permit.

So you have a permit right, what kind?

So does that mean Petsmart and Petco will have to liquidate over half of their stores?

the question will be, will they have to inspect YOUR permit before selling to you. They will either obtain dealer permits or liquidate the reptile sections of their stores. Most PEtsmart/Petco's i have been too only havde 2-3 aisles for reptiles anyway. i doubt it would be a big hit to them to no longer deal with reptiles.

So you have a permit right, what kind?

He does not. Almost no one does as its down right imposible to get. He has done the research as I have. For an exotic animal permit in this state, you must do the following.

Must have 2 years first hand experience caring for the species you want(ie for bobcat permit, 2 years bob cat experience. Brown bear? 2 years first hand experience. Your bobcat permit does not transfer to brown bear) at an accredited facility of which there arnt many.

Must build your enclosure to thier exact specs and the animal must be in the enclosure with a lock 24/7 except to clean.

Hope that they will issue the permit. Its is rare they will.

Petsmart would take a huge hit as it wouldnt be able to deal in cats, or dogs, or fish or many furry animals with the addition of reptiles.

And vf has a permit for something different. His is NOT an exotic permit and does not fall into this catergory.

It's like they are declaring martial law on pet owners and the industry, the whole thing is giving me a headache...It's like what some have already pointed out,the state already makes it hard enough as it is to legally obtain and keep certain exotics so this "dangerous exotic pets"deal smacks of pure knee jerkery.I don't think anyone here is looking to blow their tax refund on a Siberian Tiger or a baboon but we can't even purchase a damned sugar glider!
