Does sound kind of fun. I actually caught a nice Oscar once in my local pond.

Haha, me too. I got a nice Tiger Oscar that way. (I got Hoplos that way, too. Well... that was more jumping into shallow water and frantically scooping, but I was out fishing originally)

pacus are in the piranha family but exhibit none of the same charecteristics as prianhas. Pacus love grapes and nuts, as opposed to the strickly flesh eating piranha.

+1. Ask to talk to a manager, and if that was a manager, then go to another LFS! Pacu aren't vicious AT ALL.

I ended up keeping that fish for years. Him and his tankmate got ick real bad and kicked the bucket. I wasn't the best at cleaning tanks as a teenager.

Someone mentioned there's a "marketplace" of some sort on this website where I can try to find these guys a good home. I can't seem to find it...any help would be appreciated. Thanks again everyone. :(

if you havent found it yet, on the very top left corner of the page, theres a link for CLASSIFIEDS. if you click that, then MFK MARKETPLACE:BUY AND SELL it will take you to the section for buying and selling. beware, even tho this is MONSTER fish keepers, pacu can still be hard to get rid of even here, because they eventually need massive tanks that not even alot of people on here have currently or are willing to start building with the economy.

that being said, if you really want to keep your oscar, he will need a 75g tank at the very least. same length and only 6" wider than your 55g tank, so it honestly takes up no extra room you would really miss very much. with good filtration, and weekly water changes, one oscar could live a good life in a 75g.

I've seen pacus in koi ponds living...

if the pond stays at a constant temp in the 70's yes, they very easily can providing its an EXTREMELY large pond. most pacu are very docile, and would be very happy living with large koi eating pond foods i would venture to say.

granted for koi AND pacu, i wouldent do it in any less than a few thousand gallon pond. imagine the damn bio-load they would throw off together :eek::eek::eek::eek:

At the very least. Both pacu and koi are large fish and enjoy groups of their own kind

Good luck with the re-homing, I'm sure someone on here will take them off your hands
