This tilapia was bought as a "gold tilapia" which basically means its a hybrid of some sort. It has never shown aggression to any of the 20 some odd fish in the tank except the large pacu. Before the tilapia it was oscars and before them it was a giant gourami and so on. Someone always seems to take exception with my 19" pacu. lol.

I have had those golds before - they're awesome - and the males are quite chasey indeed.

wow Red Devil that pacu tank is so overstocked. How many gallons is it anyway?
You do know that they need 300 gallons or more

how do you know what size this tank is?

It is a 220gal.. not over stocked... 2 pacu and one african cichlid.. they are fine and happy and 9 years old.. better off totally then all the pacu that people are getting "rid" of.. but i have already ordered a 500gal for them and it is on it's way ...the 500 gal will not really make that much difference .. but i want to add another fish... i think people who post with a flaming attitude should at least ask about it with out judging..and there is a nice way to say things..

Couldn't say it better myself, Red Devil.

actually pacus defintly dont need 300 gal dont know where you got that from and yes my red belly is a nipper its in there nature my red belly killled a poor gourami just by nipping fins but my dominant male fire mouth that hes with seems to tatter his fins the minute i put the pacu in the tank him and the fire mout locked jaws they both fight for dominance but the firemouth always comes out on top

Interesting some others have experienced nipping as well. Mine have always been somewhat passive unless its feeding time. Wolfcichlid027- What size tank do you keep your pacu in? Maybe tank size is a factor???
