The safest heater for a pacu is the one in the sump. Even if you buy the best, strongest heater, he will eventually chew through the cord. Sumps are a must for pacus because it is very important that there is NO equipment in the main tank.

I agree 100%.

Yeah I've come to the conclusion Im going to have to find a good sump filtration system for this guy. He almost took out my filter intake tube so I had to take a portion out of it so its much shorter. Im hoping he doesnt take out the tank. He hits it alot but thankfully not a full force. He's 8 months old and 12"+ so Im sure he could bust out if he really wanted too.

what type of heater was it he broke?

It was a marineland visi therm heater....dont think it was titanium because it broke like glass.

lol...the pacu cichlid is a rare and beautiful fish...I Just didnt know where else to post it because it always gets moved by "The Bot" so I figured I'd trial and error till I get it right :P

they are characins. try in the "other characins" section.

Stealth's are bar none the best on the market right now - both for durability and accuracy.

If you've got a canister filter you can hook up to the tank check out the Hydor Inline Heaters, they're fantastically accurate.

Otherwise, get yourself a wet/dry and throw them in there.

rena heaters are pretty tough. use to work at a fish store and you could step on them, throw them and they took abuse from some very large fish, pacu, aros, and 2 gigas all these fish listed were from a foot and a half to two and a half feet, and got spoked occasionally, by the little kids knocking on the glass as if it were a door
