Painting the back of a tank ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Jsut make sure you have a squeegee to remove any air bubbles. My first time was on my 75g and now I'm stuck with them, but it looks alright. I tell people that I did it on purpose to give that "zebra" feel. :grinyes:

ya the Limo tint sounds lika easy way, to do it.
Dats low tech. Put Ventian Blinds on. It gives the tank a nice homey look!!!

Window tint is super easy on a flat surface.

i just clean the back of the tank with metho, spray it black with a can of enamel spray paint,( matt finish) works great.
if its a filled tank, make sure you cover the top well to stop over spry getting on the water.

Yyou could try to brush it, but you would probably see all of the brush strokes.

You can't see the brush strokes if you go over it a couple times. The brush/roller painted BG is also easier to take off if you change your mind versus the spray painted BG. IMO The black posterboard isnt as clean a black as a painted BG.

I used limo tint on the back of my aquariums. It's dark enough so you can't really see the back, it's less messy, it's easier, and I got the tint at Wal-Mart so it only cost like $11.

Do you have any Pic's?????
I think i might do that to my 225G!! :woot:

i have always used black vinyl, the same kind that people have custum stickers of on their cars

I like to use roofing paper. It's cheap or you can pick up some unused almost anywhere. Sometimes it has marks to indicate shingle lines but you spray flat black over them. It's stiff enough to pull tight, or you can crumple it up for texture, rocky looking effect. And you can install on established tanks. Also you can put grass or anything else between it and the glass. You can attach it w/hot glue, tape, or it practicly stands up by itself. Experiment with it!
Here's roofing paper and dried grass on back of one of mine.
