Panaque sp L191 : spawning endeavour

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the water after 2.5 months dry season was very charged with Nitrates (around 100 mg/l), the color of water turned out around dark yellow, but with a good flow and a venturi, the oxygen saturation was very high all along...
Interesting, but isn't that 100 mg/l nitrate a bit extreme? Is there a danger that water quality gets dangerous to fishes? I guess nitrite was ok, but did you measure pH, KH, ammonium just to be sure? Do you know measured water values in Amazon rivers at dry season? I'm not criticizing, just interested.

Ya same here, very interested in your techniques. Thanks for the reply. Best of luck with your project. I'll continie to follow the thread and awesome videos on YouTube.

back here after a loooooong time... I stopped the L191 experience after 7 months to use the tank for Astronotus sp Peru I have... I discovered quickly 900 liters were way too small for Cichlidae. So now, I'm back on track with L191... I (re)caught them a few days ago to simply let them live their live in the 900 litres tank...

They have grown a few centimeters more during the last months... and get (more) bigger pectoral and opercular odontodes...

Plan is : no stimulation, just normal keeping...

let's wait and see...

not really... but I'm gonna change this these next days...

normal situation from May 2016...

But...

yesterday, I discovered an unusual activity in the further bottom cave... and I took a look from the left side of the tank...

caught 2 Panaque in the same cave...

that was venting with pectoral fins... I was very excited, as it seemed to me it was on his way...

This morning... back to routine... nothing left in the cave, except the usual male... with bigger odontodes on pectoral and cheeks than ever... but no sign of a clutch...

arrrrrgghhhh !

Do your females lack the large odontodes? I recently got a 12" L27 whiteout whiskers. I'm wondering if it's a female
