i don't know, btu he loves frozen bloodworm, but so do my green sunfish and bluegill fry

I think it may be a sacramento perch because i just found out they were stocked in the lake i i netted the fish in.

Only time will tell

Does it look at all like the picture in the link from my post (#10 in this thread) ? You said it had dark stripes, but I was wondering if that was the kind of mottling that you were talking about? If you do indeed have one CONGRATULATIONS!!! They are amazing little AMBUSH hunters that hide in the shadows of the rocks and grasses, and pounce pretty hard on their prey. I couldn't be happier with mine...

Did the Department of Fish and Game plant them, or was it the folks from UC Davis? THIS IS AWESOME NEWS!!! :headbang2I know you live in the Bay Area, but where abouts was the lake that they were found?

they were planted by the dfg in don castro, but they are native to the creek that is connected to the lake.

how big our yours and how long did it take them to grow up from about 1inch?

They are definately slow growers. They have to be at least 3 years old before sexual maturity, so they are definately SLOW developers. I'd say that in 6 months, with a daily diet of brine shrimp and blood worms, they've double in size from about an inch to about 2 inches now. They are rarely reported to get over 9 or 10 inches in an aquarium type setting, but after sexual maturity CAn be encouraged to breed in a tank.

Pyramid lake, (about a 1/2 hour North of Reno) has HUGE ONES in there! In fact the WORLD RECORD 4 lbs. 6 oz. came from there, and those ones get over 16 inches, but with ABSOLUTLY OPTIMAL conditions and food sources. In your aquarium, you could expect a Sac Perch to grow slower and smaller than ANY Bluegill or Green Sunfish will.

Also, you'll want to be sure that any other Sunfish you have don't starve them of food. They don't compete too well with other Centrarchids for food, and this is why they are almost completely extirpated from the Delta drainages. Bluegills, and Bass regulalrly outcompete them for food and spawning habitat.

Again, Congratulations!! Sacramento Perch are EXTREMELY COOL mini Monsters.

Ben.
