I decided to take a different route with my 300 gallon and picked up this beautiful breeding pair. I just couldn't pass up giving them a good home once I saw them for sale (thanks again tbonewarrior!!). The male is 14" TL and the female is 8" TL. My wife is in love with them, she is the main reason I picked them up.

They have the 300 gallon all to themselves. Good excuse for a much larger tank in the near future.. :grinno:

^ oh and before anyone asks for picss out of the tank measured, that's not going to happen but I did throw in a 12" ruler in with the male before moving him to his new tank. See below:

Man Justin!! You've REALLY joined the darkside! Grats with the purchase and good luck with this awesome species!

Can you possibly take a couple shots without flash on so the blue is visible?

Very nice, Justin! It's still hard for me to see you with the "Bruiser" cichlids. Your taste in cichlids has really changed over the last few months. Will the new inhabitants of the 300 interfere with your Festae plans or will the Festae be going into another tank? Oh, good idea about placing the ruler in with the Dovii. This will avoid most of the requests for you to pluck it out of the water and hold it next to a ruler.

Thanks! :D I wish I could, my camera does not take pics without the flash. I will try and get a video of him soon. Trust me when I say this guy is a show stopper!

Thanks Al, my tastes haven't changed at all. If I am going to be of any value to this hobby I have to go outside my niche and learn as much as I can/contribute. I am with you on the measurements. I'll measure him on the rare occasion he gets moved (new tank etc..) I am patient, I can wait to find out. I'm not willing to risk anything for bragging rights. As far as the festae, who knows. I will likely just set up a 240 for them or give them the 300 when these two get their new tank. Either way I would like the festae to get an 8' tank. Setup is half the hobby for me so new tanks are not issue, quite the oposite actually. Cichlids and setup are my two passions in the hobby.

Nice pick up. They look to be a very nice pair. All the better with your wife taking a shining to them as well.

Thanks Brent! Yeah she "checks" on them every hour or so. She just asked me this morning what size tank she will have to get them, to keep them happy long term. I think it's cute she is trying to stake claim on my fish, I'm not going to stop her lol..
