my favorite cichlids ever. nice sized chompers for such a small guy. keep him around he will be a shredder one day soon.

Hey MFE< would you keep em or would you eat em  ? that is the question

thanks everyone, got him since i just needed another monster to replace my haitiensis that died (i'll post pics of that one soon).

J-roc, no lighting from the bottom... it's a bare tank so the lights are bouncing off the flooring, i plan to get some gravel just been a bit lazy these days hehe

Most young dovii will retreat to a hiding space when you approach the aquarium. However, if there is a female present and they spawn, he will attack the glass just like the mother will to protect her young.

I currently house two mid-sized dovii in a 146g aquarium. They recently spawned are are quite protective of their 500+ fry.

Great shots, by the way.

Doviis are some what skittish at the juvi stage. That is normal, but when doviis hit 15" and over it becomes very aggressive.

I have two males one at 10'' and one at 16'' the 10'' dovii hides and the 16'' tries to kill me evertime I get near the tank. Be patient he will turn evil soon. They are one of my favorite CA cichlids, evertime I see one male or female it takes everything in my power not to buy them.

BTW yours is a beautiful specimen, nice teeth

Nice, very nice piranha45. Thanks for the e-mail also.
I noticed that you do not have any hiding places for your female,
does he chase/ harass her at all. I have a 9" male Midas and he
chases and pulls at the females fins. That female is a 7" colored Midas.
I just purchased a second female, which is a Barred Midas thinking
that he did not like the first females orange color and size. Let alone
the fact that she has never laid eggs in a 3 month period. So I purchased the second female Barred Midas from Jeff Rapps and he does the same thing to her.
What is a guy to do? Is he destined to live a solo life? Help.

BBOY :
