Hello, well I bought this little fella at about 1.5 cms as a jaguar cichlid. But now he is a bit bigger I am not so sure, his colouration appears to be wrong many be a freddy?

The spots developing on his gill area and fins makes me say motaguense...definitely not a jag (or pure jag)...

Nice pics btw...often people asks for an id on a fish that can hardly be seen in the photo.....

BALLS!!! YOU BEAT ME!!!

+1

Doesn't look like any pure Jag I ever seen, but who knows?

Ah cool thanks gents, glad to know it wasn't just me thinking it was a odd looking jag! Do you know if it's a male or female? Or to small yet?

idk, it has some really long tapered trailer-fins, but how long is it? Variables from possibly being hybrid could make it very difficult to determine until sexual maturity

He/she is About 5 inches long, yeah the long tapered find were what made me think male something but not a jag.

I mean for now I agree w/ cich78 cich78 ....I say male Managuensis/Motaguensis, but things could change in a year .............or an inch. I never seen this hybrid (if it is) before, but there's a lot of things I haven't seen on MFK yet

In all honesty it looks like a small female Dovii to me from them pics, looks nothing like any jag I've had in the past, just looked again defo looks like a female Dovii, I can even see flashes of blue on the edges of her fins, just my opinion of course lol, but I'd say defo female Dovii.

Thanks dude, it's seems we are quite divided on this! My misses agrees with you on the female Dovii belief...I was back at the lfs today and I showed the bloke the picture and he is totally adamant that it's a female jaguar cichlid in its camouflage pattern.
