This female was donated to us recently, about 10" and 2.5 years old, so I thought I'd start her story with the arrival video:
Yup cichlids have a hard time stopping on there own. If food is there they will eat it. Sorry for the loss of your jag...I am not sure what happened. I believe it is overfeeding, which seems to occur often with CA cichlids. If so, a note for self to keep such fish either alone so I can control their feed uptake or in a company of highly competitive / equally competitive tank mates, which the lima shovelnose and the gar could not be for this cichlid.
I think also that it is possible that the jaguar increased her feeding to produce eggs, because I had seen what looked like strange, possibly breeding mood behavior prior.
Fed fine, then suddenly got bloated over two days and perished. 12". 4.5 years old.
