Parachromis managuensis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I put 5 tinfoil barbs in just now and it's amazing what that did. It minimized the aggression of the two jags. The bully of the two guards the barbs and the jag that got bullied mildly chases the barbs. We'll see how it goes. Good thing is both Jags are out and about and the barbs aren't being bothered vary much.

That's great, they grow huge but I think you already planned on returning them. Are the Jags eating?

They're eating great! They hide when I go to feed but when I do they come out and eat everything. They're eating so well that when I came in this morning they ate all the barbs besides one so I took it out and put it in another tank here in my office. I have two 20 gallon longs on an industrial rack.

Edit: FYI I'm bringing the barb back to the store later today.

Awesome pictures. I like your photography skillz.

Thank you! Yours are awesome as well.

My other Jag is back into hiding now that the barbs are gone. If this doesn't get better I'm going to have to rehome them. I don't want a 1 fish 125 gallon. If things don't change I'm going to get a delhezi and add some other fish. I'm not one to give up that quick so does anyone have any ideas? The dither/target fish idea obviously didn't work out. I'm already $200 in with the jags. The first pair hopped out of the tank and so I got this pair. Shipping is outrageous.

Hmm it can be tough with just two cichlids, even when small in a tank that size. Did you divide them?

I haven't yet. He's not hurting the other one but he chases it back to it's hiding spot. I'll try that soon. It's going to be tricky with the rockscape that I have.

I did something funny today. I printed a huge picture of an adult jaguar and cut it out perfectly. I taped it to the glass of the aquarium and both fish swam up to it pretty quick. They're obsessed with it and for this moment it's reducing agression. I don't see this lasting very long but it's funny to see them behave this way and I'm happy to see my other Jaguar out and about.

Yeah give that a go.

Okay so I just separated them with eggcrate. The bullied fish IMMEDIATELY changed back to it's normal color and is out and about swimming around like nothing happened. Yay!

In your experience how long does this take?
