Depends if there a compatible pair, just because you have a male and female doesn't mean they will breed. Normally it's best to get a large group of juvis and let a pair form naturaly.Okay so I just separated them with eggcrate. The bullied fish IMMEDIATELY changed back to it's normal color and is out and about swimming around like nothing happened. Yay!
In your experience how long does this take?

Frank Castle would be a much better person to ask. I just know the basics of fish keeping lol no real experience with breeding pair of Jags. I'd imagine you would want to grow them both on separately for a while and monitor their behavior. Once the male gets large enough you could cut a hole in the divider that only the female can fit through to escape.
I've noticed when i have a pair of anything that when kept in a community i have better luck getting a pair to bond as they seem to recognize their own species as allies and it goes from there. None of my pairs ever fought and i have never used dividers, but i did raise them up together......mostly.I'll do that or I'll get pvc that she can fit in and he can't.
Yeah that could help. How many hiding spots do you have for them? The more the better

My pair of Jags in my community tank like each other an not much else, but it wasn't until i got them in the 125g. In the 75g, they were too cramped to like anything but themselves and their own space
by "Community" i mean aggressive cichlid community......multiple cichlids kept in a larger tank w/ a pair-to-be will dilute aggression between the same species if they are opposite sex, or sometimes in the case of my FMs or Convicts, the SAME SEX. For example, my 125g, my 75g's, my 55g's, etc all have MULTIPLE species of cichlids and i try to make sure i always have 2 of everything (which isn't always the case)As far as caves goes I don't have any.
I've noticed the same. I've had more success with breeding while the pair was in a community setup. I've also never had pairs fight so it could be that they won't form a pair. There is also that chance that they're the same sex. If they're the same sex I'll definitely have to rehome one and start a community. I really want a poly so if I have a large community in here I might could put one in here. We'll just have to see as time goes on. I might have to start a community in here but after the tiger barb situation I'd be afraid to. These guys are vicious.
Just did a water change. This is in my office. I also have these two 20g longs.

2 female Convicts ALWAYS band together for safety in the 55g growout
same 55g growout, 2 male Firemouth, otherwise mortal enemies, fight a little, but team together when the other fish dominate either
Finally, the 125g community - clearly only 2 fish have formed a bond - can you guess which ones?oops, my mistake, the harem of 1; 3 Jack Dempseys is not actively breeding yet, but they all favor each other above anyone else. While the Texas are a pair, they don't seem too promising yet. They both seem to do their own thing, BUT will stick together ONLY when there is aggression circulating
they look like they could be a pair....mine took almost a year to take a liking to each other. I got them at 2" last X-mas and the male is now 9" and the female about 7-7.5"I try to find some info online regarding how long I should keep them divided. Maybe a month or two? We'll see. Your jags are beautiful!!!!!! Assuming you've grown those from juvis, at what length did they begin to get the typical jaguar pattern? Mine still have the juvi pattern. I don't know the age of mine so knowing the age at which their pattern changes wouldn't help me.
If they just won't live together I'll fill this tank up with other cichlids and try it out. How many would you recommend in this 125? I count about 14 or so from your pictures. The problem for me is going to be finding more fish that are 4 1/2 to 5" and buying them all at one time. Or can I introduce 4 at a time? I guess that would be better on my filters.
Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate all of the information!!
