Parachromis ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
theres no worming pattern so i dont think its a loisellei

This is why I think it is a female loisellei. Evidently the males have the mosaic( worming) pattern and the females don't. Cant really confirm this but it's my guess

Definitely Loisellei mix. Notice the lavender top portion of the body.

Def. hybrid though. Not mixed with a Parachromis otherwise the "tears" marking would be prominant under the eye. Must be mixed with another species of cichlid that made the marking go away/fade.

Also: Notice sunken eyes (Parachromis are vicious predators with protruding eyes to see all over). The body shape from afar looks almost Jack Dempsey as well as the head. But no Jack pearls though, intriging indeed, that's what we get with hybrids.

For all we know its a "retarded" genuine Loisellei.

Yeah right lol. Mix or hybrid would explain the difficulty in id'ing for sure. Must be why he was on clearance lol. Either way, i dont think its got a lick of mota in the mix. Lots of pics of Loisellei online that show the same lavender and green colorartion. Markings are similar but not exact, but way closer than any mota ive seen yet.

Very piscovorous too. When i first got "Mo" all it did was hide. After a week in qt without much activity at all, I decided to move a 5" L147 in to see if "Mo" would react. Nothing. Didnt acknowledge the pleco existed at all. Then I upped the anti and put in a decent sized serpae to see what would happen. "Mo" has been pretty active ever since. The tetra lasted all of about 10 seconds......experiment was a success, sort of

Either way and whatever she is, she moves into a new 300 gallon home this weekend hopefully. Tank shows up tomorrow and ive got alot of work to do ......

Thanks for confirming i wasnt just seeing things. The head and short body just didnt look right to me, Has almost the shape of my female freddy but wrong marking and head shape

After looking at a few Golden Dovii videos, looks similar. Not exact, but the coloring and black markings are very similar. Been reading up on Dovii/Loisellei mixes now. If this is true, this should make for an exciting tank lol.
