I would be thankful.

I couldn't even get a cat before I moved out.

Once you move out space becomes really limited and it sucks for people like us who likes to keep a variety of things.

Yeah be thankful.

That's more than my parents would let me have. Just abide by their wishes, be thankful they're letting you get it to begin with, and AFTER you've had it for a while, keeping up on cleaning, try to negotiate with them again, showing them that the smell isn't a problem given the care that you provide.

My sugestion is a diferent one, how cold does your garage gets during winter, does it have irritant/ toxic substances in it? Considering your keeping your lizard in a rater inospitable envioroment I would probably stat away from something like a ackie, wich is more demanding then other lizards. Have you considered something like a blue tonge skink, leopard gecko or a crestred gecko. Any of those make great pets, are smaller and take much less space then a ackie. They could even be small enough for your parents to allow them inside the house. Would be better then later your ackie getting sick because he got to cold or something like that.

I keep my turtles and other reptiles in my garage, I sometimes struggle to keep my temps up during the cold winter nights here is San Diego.

If you are getting the Ackie and plan to keep it in the garage, dont get a glass aquarium, get something more insulated like melamine or thick plastic.

You can keep your lizard anywhere as long as you provide the right environment.

I live in Florida and in the winters it rarely gets 40 degrees and night and we have a portable heater we can put out there. Also the only chemical we have are like paint and construction materials, stuff that should be harmless to a lizard. Size is not the problem to keep it inside, its the smell. I'm not big fans of blue tongue skink, leopards, or cresties and have no reason to keep them.

Plus, when I go into my garage at night it feels like a desert. The garage is full of humidity and heat in the winter and I can't see the ackie getting too cold.

That is better then, I have no clue where you live so I have to play with the "steriotypical" garage image:D And if its just the smell, francly ackies smell zero, I never kept any myself but know many who do and the only thing you feal is if you take a big sniff inside the actuall terrarium but nothing like say guinea pigs or a cat. The desert envoiroment they require drains all moisture and the waste rapidly dry out, it doesant rot.
