Parents.....

Wow is all I can say. Btw, there is a serious difference in supporting ones hobby, than supporting ones massive tank setup that your helping pay for (electricity forlights/heaters/filters) that can be expensive for a large tank! That does not make you a bad parent! And to so blatently say they are...

I am still young, but years are starting to tack on quicker. I respect my parents now more than ever. Love them the same!

I read through this and see alot of whining about they wont let me do this and that... How much are you paying for? How about running costs? Electricity? Water? Large setups are not cheap... I only bought one out of necessity!

Be happy they let you have a tank at all...

Maybe you should go back to page 9 and read my first post.
I don't live with my parents and pay for everything that has to do with hobby. I pay the light bill in my house and everything else. So when I had my 100+ gallon tanks I paid for everything.

I been living on my own since i was 15. I blantently said my parents aren't the best cause its true. I had a rough childhood and my parents were never really there for me. The streets raised me I was gang banging in elementary school. Now I'm older and choose a different lifestyle then what I grew up in. Keeping fish is what made start changing my life for the better. Then my wife and son came along.

Wow this thread has been long gone for ages. I must say since this thread first surface til now a lot has changed for me. 5 years can be a long time. I look back at everything I wrote prior and think to myself..... everything I said was TRUE and dead on.

Since this thread first surfaced I have had the 'pleasure' of having my parents live with me for 5mths while thier new house was built. I made room for them, set them up with thier own areas for the hobbies they are into much like they did for me, which for my father ment losing 1/2 my garage for a stinking motorbike -.- We had our disagreements, mainly due to the fact that my father still liked to believe he controlled the household since that was his place in his house, he even threw out a "this is my house" once. I wont lie, at times it was difficult to live with them as I like to come and go all hours of the night and they prefer I didnt (in thier house I wouldnt come and go) but its my house and they had to adjust to my way of living which is only fair as I lived to thier rules prior. I didnt make it difficult for them, much like parenthood, I choose to have them knowingly so as far as im concerned to then not treat them fairly and give them no say is pathetic. I have also had my younger brother and his GF live with me, they stayed an entire year. While I did nag at the start about them cleaning up after themselves as I am not a maid once the learnt that all was right as rain. they both had several hobbies some of which I really didnt like, but again if you make that choice then you cant be a dick and give them no say.... they even had a dog but as long as they cleaned the lawn I didnt mind too much.

Honestly I would have my parent live with me again as overall I enjoyed it, family after all is the most important thing and you should adjust for them whether they are parents, children, sibling or so on. My father actually apologised for trying to control my house and admitted us kids werent so bad after all as it can be hard living under someone elses rule, esp when you have no other choice. Also even though there were times that my parents hated my tanks and cursed the hobby to hell while i lived with them, they now have thier own 6x2x2 as they said the house jsut seemed empty without it.

Thanks. My moto is s.t.o.n.e. that's what I live by and think of every day.

I do apologize for jumping to conclusions... And my rant was more of a generalization of alot of the posts on here, not specifically yours. Its good u got a great family.

For those of you who replied and pay for your stuff... awesome! Good for you! But I was directing this towards the ones who don't pay, but can't understand why their parents wont LET them have more/bigger tanks.

Its cool. I told you a little of my background cause its important to know not everyone is that blessed. I had to work for mine and did somethings I'm not proud of but that's what makes you a man. I didn't have the luxury of having parents to buy me stuff.

I know that's what you was aiming at. That's why I didn't answer to all of what you said
Truth be told your right and I honestly think if some put a little hard work instead of whining they would have their monster tank.

Agreed... I pay for all of my aquarium stuff. Other than a filter my mom is gettin me for Christmas everything else I have paid for all on my own and I am proud of that. I'm 23 I work at SAMs club, I own my own house, my own car, and I pay all of my bills. I get a little help with some gas every now n then but I make it. I wish more people had the same attitude as me. Seems like today's world wants everything handed to them. I am busting my butt to pay all of my bills with hardly no help from anyone else and there's people sitting on theirs getting assisted living and food stamps. I'm just glad I can say I am not dependent of my parents. Ontop of that I'm a full time student, I just feel like if I can do this why can't everyone else? Sorry got a little of the parent topic but just had to get
It out there. Tired if seeing all these spoiled brats ( no offense to anyone on here) that gets handed all of
There stuff. Furthermore, respect your parents wishes. If you want a bigger tank and they say no, just be respectful and do as they wish. They don't have to let you have an aquarium at all. Ok my rant is over I'm sure there's some that feel the same way as me and I'm sure there are some that disagree

Hey there's nothing wrong with getting cash assistantance and food stamps. I got both and it helps greatly. As you see im a working man too. I do agree that some people should do something better then just getting that assistance and food stamps.

Yeah I have no problem with people getting assistance I know people work and still need it I was mainly aiming that toward the lazy rotten good for nothing's
