Hi,

Just wondering why my paroon sharks seem to only roam back and forth along the bottom of my tank...

I've seen numerous pictures and videos of paroons where they're swimming mid-level and mine seem to just stay at the bottom.

both of them are about 5inches long.

When the lights are turned off they do swim higher up but as soon as the lights are on they go back down.
The videos and pictures i've seen are all with the lights on...

is it because they are juveniles?

300g... tankmates consist of an aro, some silver dollars, some tinfoil barbs.

i have 2 one of which wont feed from the surface.
are you feeding floating or sinking food? if they only ever get food from the bottom why search at the surface?

They are still juveniles and therefore have the instinct to stay on the bottom to avoid predators. Once they grow larger they will start going to the surface.

Mine juvenile paroon shark "pangasius sanitwognesi" of 3 inches don't have this behavior. :)

they are a mid water fish. and so is every other fsh in your tank apart from the aro. how big are the other fish . they may just be trying to stay out of the way of everthing else

I have seen tons of paroon sharks do this. It fades with age.

aro is about 12inches, silver dollars/barbs are 3-4 inches, peacock bass is 4-5inches...

they don't come up at all when the lights are on...

younglin, thanks for the good input. at what age/size are we talking??

Once they stop feeling threatened. Could be a long time, could be tomorrow lol. Just have to wait. How long have they been in that tank?
