paroon shark

i was told it was a brackish fish though .. just like the paroon shark .. are you sure you are correct
ive looked my columbian shark up on databases and it told me it was a brackish fish .. ijs .. well starts out in fresh .. then changes to brackish .. full salt water is no problem for me eigther .. im setup for salt water but i run fresh water at the moment
paroon shark or pangasius sanitwongsei catfish is a full fresh water catfish live in the Mekong river, if they are brackish they would be native only to Vietnam and not all the countries that have the Mekong running through.
and they do need a lot of space as they are a constant swimmer, your 480 G will last about 1-2 years as they will be over 2 ft after 2 years! finding a paroon in US is not easy as they are quite rare!

and one more thing, if you don't know they are catfish then don't buy them! They are not for beginner fish keepers, find some other fish that easier to keep!

im so confused why a paroon is called a shark or a catfish .. ive even heard them called id sharks.. why not just one .just like my columbian shark.. a shark is a shark , a catfish is a catfish. i didnt mean to get a lil mad at my previous posts .. i just stand up for myself and my reserch that ive been doing for 6 months ...almost a year and have seen 1 on ebay that was 22 inches and he wanted 200.00 ... i am in contact with him but wanted a smaller one so it would get used to me ...and thank you dang for puting the posts in the right area ..

i just wanted to say thank you to all of your opinions .. i seen some sites refer to fish as brackish when others dont and thats why i joined monster fish keepers .. to get peoples thoughts .. im not a novice when it comes to tanks and big fish ... i just never thought i could own the "cool" fish i seen on peoples tanks on websites.i mainly went to the fish store or ebay... so thank you people for having me here ..

Shark is a common "street" name for them, they look like sharks. I'm sure it all started as a marketing ploy from fish stores, sell it as a shark get more money. They are actually catfish though. Paroon, Irridescent, and Columbian are all catfish. Columbian is the only marine one. Same thing with red tail shark, it is actually a catfish- not to be confused with red tail catfish LOL. And they stay small, Ihave had mine for over 2 years and he is about 6".

Actually acoording to the old Innes book red tail shark is actually a type of minnow. Along with its cousin the larger black shark.

i like the tiger fish ... as mentioned by a fellow member .. how would i go about finding something that exotic to wisconsin ... i tried to look up tank spec's ect and found nothing for a fish like this .. ill abort the paroon idea ... has anyone here had one of these evil looking things ...
