paroon x redtail

Can someone with a scientific/marine biologist/biologist background please confirm if this hybrid is even possible.

Just because someone in the LFS decided to call it a Paroon/RTC Hybrid doesn't make it so.

The two fish are not even remotely related.
They are not even from the same continent.
Hybridisation only occurs where the species are closely related.

Can we take a step back here and ask ourselves "Is this possible?".

I've spoken to a marine biologist on another forum whom I know for many years, he says it is certainly not possible. The picture could be one of many many juvenile catfish in the hobby.

Am I the only one who is sceptical here?

C'mon please, surely you dont think this is a natural hybrid? if you have been in fishkeeping any length of time you will know man cant leave things alone and try to create man made freaks all the time, some people just love playing god, and hope to make a lot of money out of it.:(

If by natural hybrid you mean that these two species have bred together without any intervention, of course I don't think that.

Natural Hybrid/Man Made hybrid, it still doesn't change the fact that the two species are not even near alike biologically to hybridise.

Regardless of whether it was done in a lab or not I don't think it is possible.

Man I can estimate that those things will grow anywhere from 100cm - 150cm easily. And its a high possibility that it will be even more than that.

I'd say the ultimate catfish hybrid would be Piraiba x Mekong Giant Catfish. Imagine a full grown one...

for some strange reason........im just not buying the hybrid of the two fish in ?. but they have been putting out the "balloon paroons" so who the hell knows! wow, a paroon that can eat a feeder damn near his same size!!!!!!!!!

so its possible BUT HOW? how would a rtc get a paroon to mate with him? id love to see a video of a breeding pair at work. ive kept both fish and i just dont see how!
