Paroons...??? What are these?

Yep, those look strikingly like blackears to me. Good job with the pics. :)

very nice fish. these are really rare in the wild, just like most fish in this genus, but also there is a lot of hybridizing for aquaculture, and that is why you see a lot of these look alike fish... you know the swai fillet they sell, that is a pangasius sp.

Yep,when I tell people that I know who like to eat the swai that it is a common aquarium fish they are really surprised. It is also called basa here and there is an interesting story behind this fish being brought to the states as a food and how it relates to the American catfish industry.

One truly does learn new things every day, although I don't eat it, that was q popular fillet served at my parents restaurant when I was growing up. :(

There was a private aquaculture facility down in Puerto Rico that raised pangasius and others as food fish.It has been a few years since I've been down there so I'm not sure if that place still operates.

Well then Senor, I didn't know you travel to our lower territories? Let the ID eaters tell you they love Swai. We on the other hand are dealing with other Pangasius species....ughum..ughum...the rarer kind, like a fine caviar.....if you will.

Your hunch was right, Ruben. And I looked carelessly. Never expected a black ear I guess... and the sheen is unusually greenish for an IDS. I was very wrong. Now I can see the black spot easily in the first video.

Wes (Fugupuff) was careful not to say too much. It makes me think he thinks this might be a hybrid too. I heed his opinion.

This is true. In a world where these closely related species that are hard enough to tell apart anyway are routinely crossbred for hybrid vigor, it strikes me as pertinent to use the most obvious ID though.
