So, I'm helping my bestie navigate his first tank. He hasn't bought anything yet, but I told him the best course of action was to pick out the fish he wanted, plan the tank around the fish, and make sure his floors were okay with it.
He's really wanting a pair of parrot cichlid. A blood parrot and a polar blue parrot. He asked me if they're okay to keep together, but honestly, I don't know much about them. I just have the breeding pair of polar blues that my daughter wanted. I would assume they would be, but I don't want to give him the okay just to find out a month later there was a blood bath in his first ever tank and he give up.

So, anybody know if these two are compatible fish?

Depends on tanks size and temperament of the fish, plus if there are other fish.
He's wanting to go with a 55 gallon. I get with cichlids getting along it's pretty hit or miss. They'll either get along or they won't and that can change over night. I do need to explain that to him so he can be prepared and have a back up plan if things go south. As far as I know of there will be no other fish.
I'm going to help him out with this as much as I can, and so far he's really open to learning and advice.

Don’t mean to derail but what exactly is a dither

A dither is a fish that shoals with other fish and that indicate to other fish when it is safe to swim about or to take cover from a predator/danger. This is not the same as a target fish, which is used to spread the aggression of a territorial fish across other fish.

dither fish does not equal target fish

Interesting I never knew what dither meant until now thank you

Good examples are large tetras, livebearers, rainbow fish, or danios.
Tinfoil barbs and sometimes silver dollars can work for bigger fish.
