Parrot cichlid hybrid question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't know there was such thing as target fish. That sounds kinda... mean
In a way it’s the opposite. When dealing with fish like Malawi cichlids, putting extra cichlids in will create more targets for dominant fish and reduce the aggression on any one fish to a minimum. Essentially they spread the aggression instead of concentrating it.

OOOOHHHH!!! The whole "over stock to reduce agression" concept. Okay, I can understand that.

If the op is looking to pair the cichlids then wouldn’t dithers eat the eggs or fry if any any produced. I see how if they aren’t wanting them to breed this would be a good think but it also goes the other way around

I don't think baby fish are the goal.
I'll have to ask if that's what he's wanting to do, but I really don't think it is.

It most likely isn’t especially if it’s his first tank I don’t see how breeding would be beneficial to him but it’s still possible that the two breed but on which case the dithers can think out the numbers of fry. ( just putting a scenario in place)

Nothing stops cichlids from breeding as long as it’s a male and female lol.
But cichlids will fend off dithers from the fry, so they aren’t a huge issue. If anything it would just reduce the numbers of excess fry.
I would suggest to get a female convict though. This way, even if the parrot is male, there will be virtually no chance of successful hatching due to male parrot infertility.

I definitely noticed with my daughter's parrots. I swear they think they're trying to repopulate the planet ?
I'm honestly considering separating them. Heck, I might give one to my bestie.

The fry make good feeders for any predators ?

Lol, try telling my kiddo that...
Besides, now that you mention it, I absolutely will not drop them in my Oscar tank a few at a time every night until they're all gone.
I absolutely will not manipulate the giving of affection from my favorite fish by giving them little mini midnight snacks... ??
