when I used to keep payara my endi ate one that was well over 3/4 his body length.

Advice noted. They've been together for 2 weeks so far and nothing's happened yet. Knock on wood. The minute I see any type of aggression towards the payara's, the endli's peacin to the 40g and they'll have to take their chances with the scombs in there.
 
The only aggression issues iv personally had with polys and my armatus was during feeding, sometimes the bichir would get too excited for food and literaly fight my armatus for a piece of fillet.

Hopefully you have no issues and seems like yours are closer in size. The only aggression issue that was ever noted in that tank was the payara disappearing. There were no warning signs.
