lol there is an entire giant thread about the scomb sudden death theory. IMO, I wouldn't bother keepig them. tats and armatus are way better and easier to keep..

just as a heads up, not alot of people have kept large armatus very successful from what I known except for some people from asia.

Alright so could I stick any other fish with them like a bottom cleaner like a cat and an algae eater like a flag tail or pleco ?

I head that flag tails suck the slime coat off of fish. Since payara have very delicate skin, you definately shouldn't add them. It opens up to dangerous infections. As for bottom dwellers, I definately advise you to chech out BICHIRS! Best bottom fish ever! Much over looked by alot of people for some reason. Also, a combo with sting rays are also an excellent choice.

gatf, payara, bichirs and stingrays. Best combo ever!

If you don't want casualties, you aren't going to want to do a GATF/armatus combo. That will more than likely end badly one way or the other. Both species is known for going after silver scaled fish, and both are also known for killing tankmates from time to time. That just sounds like a high possibility for issues.

Not saying it can't be done, because I have seen them in the same tank before. I'm just pointing out that it is a risk, and you should consider it before deciding on your final stock list.

IMO, if you've decided on payara for sure, I'd definitely go with a school of tats instead. I think they look great with the extra coloration on them, plus they get fairly large without getting huge - with the added bonus of not having the reputation/issue of early death of a scomb. Less conspecific aggression as well. If you really want an ATF in there, maybe go with a VATF instead of a goliath - but again, make sure you grow the appropriate fish out to size before mixing them in, don't throw different species in with different growth rates and hope for the best. Hope that helps.

what rampage said. I personally wouldn't keep armatus together. They are the king of all payaras and don't like dominant tankmates with it.
Tats and atf would be the best option IMO.

payarakeeper has quite a few larger atfs with a large tat and an juvinile armatus. They are doing very well. Seen them in person myself. They were in a 300 gallon tank.

surprised that the wild life officials even know about these fish! lol. Any wild ones in florida?
