Asians are banned because they're critically endangered in the wild. They're a IUCN Category 1 animal, like black rhinos or other such rare critters. As such, trade in those fish is completely prohibited in the United States as a whole.

Most of the fish on the restricted and conditional lists for Florida are banned because they have the potential to decimate the native populations of fish. Cichlids and payara from equatorial regions in the Amazon can't thrive outside of warmwater canals in southern FL, but fish like ATF and arowanas that can deal with temperate temperatures are much more of a threat, and could be devastating if they got loose. Florida's restrictive, but understandable, laws is a key factor in my decision not to go back there once I'm done with my time in the Army.

Ok thanks for all that info to bad we floridians can't have some of the cool fish like other states.

Yeah as I'm trying to figure out where I want to settle down, it seems that quite a few states are very restrictive. It appears as though I may have to choose between my fish and being warm! LOL

Honestly even if I won $50 Million bucks I wouldn't leave Canada, great place to bee if you don't mind the climat. In the spring/summer it still gets pretty warm.

haha lols. The asians are mass bred right now! Here in canada, they are super common in exotic fish stores. Don't even talk about Asia. It seems that every rich asain has one! My mom's friend has a pond of asain aros! My belief is that if you have the mney, you can buy any fish you want.
