I have one just like them. They are Tats or more commonly known as redtails.
I really hope my lfs gets more in. The last batch they got in were Scombs.

i love those fish.. tried keeping on acouple times.. never worked though.. they die too easy.. got them when they were babies.. no bigger than acouple inches.. they just wouldn't eat.. tried feeding them guppies, rosy reds.. nothing worked.. they always starve to death on me.. any advice?

these guys dont have an eating problem as they have been packing away live fatheads like crazy and have actually grown quite fast since I aquired them. Also not skittish at all and rather aggressive....I had expected otherwise due to alot of stories I have heard, but they are doing great. I have them in a 150gal with a swordspine snook and a few smallish raphael type cats...good current with aeration via powerhead and the sump return, temp is 84*F,dark gravel and stone decore...otherwise I always have up to 15-20 feeders in there at all times to let them feed at will...I have witnessed them eating almost daily...and when taking the pics they actually kept charging the camera and displaying(short bursts with gills flaired and head down) so they are not shy at all...best advice I would say is to let them swim with their food and feed at will....It has worked out well for me as this is the first time I have kept them and pretty much have no experiance with them. good luck in the future payara keeping.

Looking good.
