Thank you all for your help with an id. I now have no doubts that it is in fact an armatus. Now i need your help with a BIGGER problem... I dnt know if u can see in that first picture, but he has something hanging out of his gills. Im worried it can be a parasite, but im not freaking out yet. He is in a quarintine still and wont be infecting any of my fish. But i still am worried about him as an individual and would love for him to grow up healthy.

Ive had some troubles taking decent pictures, where u can see the thing out of his gills, but i will be uploading newer and better pictures as i get the chance. So please if you have any thoughts, oppinions, and advice, i am more than grateful. Thanks everybody for your
help.

Looks the same as my pbass that had his gill ripped by the stingrays. Anything in the tank with it that could have injured it?

Hard to tell but I've seen a ck with anchor- worm, they look like little tubes attached to their gills

He is in the tank by himself but he is going through the fang replacement process and is banging his head on the glass alot. Maybe he could have cut himself in the process. But the thing isnt going away. Also at the end of the thing, it splits in two. I think it could be an anchor worm. If it turns out being one, wat can i do to get rid of it? Ive hear u can pull them out yourself, but i dnt want to pick him up and stress him out. Also if i pull it out i can injure his gills.

sounds like anchor worm google images and google treatment mate.. or get aquanero on the case...

So after a ton of reaserch im one hundred precent positive its an anchor worm, but theres only one. I am still looking at what the best ways to treat it are, but like i said, theres only one. So can it even reproduce? From what ive found there needs to be a male and a female anchor worm to produce offspring. And after all, my armatus is showing zero signs of problems caused by the anchor worm. So should i wait it out and avoid chemical treatmenst to see if it dies off, kindof like a lone surviver type situation, or treat it while my armatus is still healthy. Regardless of whether it even will be visibly affected by the anchor worm.

as of now, im kind of leaning towards waiting this thing out. But can anyone tell me how long their life is, as of this point, and whether they need a mate to produce?

also if you have dealt with these crustacions before, how did u get rid of them(what method did you use and what specific treatment)? And what did you think of the products used(where they safe, did you notice a change of behavior in your fish, fatalities...etc.)

Once again thank you everyone for all your help.

I was told if you pull it out your self you will kill the fish. Not sure how true that is but I was also told that if they get it then you can count down the days. But I would jump on it so itch dosent get worse, Payaras aren't the hardiest fish. I would try to find a natural formula instead of a man made chemical. But if its the only way then I would do it.

Prazipro asap man that stuff is awesome. I used it when I first got my Armatus as a prevention. I Don't think you should try and pull it out. Prazipro will kill it and anything else in the tank.

Anchor worms are realy thin and have split tails.

Treat with praziquantel. Good water changes.
