The conclusion - is that there's only 1 true PBB among the 4 bichirs. The true PBB is the one mentioned by King-el and Infblue. Do share a vid of it for us to enjoy:D

You dun conclude as you can't even tell a nigerian Lap apart. Already 2 person told me about your background and I trust them.

It's up to the dealers and more experience person to conclude.

I still stick by this one not being PBB.

I still trust the person who sold me these 3 "PBB". I have been his regular customer since i started this hobby of collecting rare bichirs and he never failed me in delivering what I want here in Singapore. I hope he just dun stop his business can liao.

The thing is he only sold you 1 PBB and the rest are Nigerian lasp. I owned 4 Nigerian PBB in the past and 2 Chad PBB and they can easily tell apart by Nigerian Laps. Nigerian laps can also vary in head shape but still can't be compare to PBB.

Go easy on Tendou! No need for rudeness.

There are a number of people that are owners of 100% PBB telling you that only 1 of yours is a PBB. And even that 1 was "questionable".

If you don't want to listen to a majority, and have 100% faith in your dealer, then ignore us and continue wasting your money!

As a side note, "coincidently" there is another user from S.E.Asia that is now also asking for ID on a possible PBB.

At least this guys one has 16 finlets, but has a clear Lapradei head.
I am certain that came from a farm here in Japan, as when shopping for my 3, I saw hundreds of these being knocked out from a place called "Aqua Art" in Obihiro, Japan. They were being sold as PBB at only 20,000 Yen. (Not much).

I know the owners of Aqua Art VERY well, and they openly told me they are not real but PBB x Lap hybrids from a farm in Hokkaido.

So you see it happens everywhere. Which is why I made sure mine were certificated. (Though my 2 Turkana were got for me by a well known Aqua Magazine photographer)

Most people I know would not buy a PBB unless they had 100% no doubts.
You obviously did...

It's OK, bro tokyogasmask. Even though I ID-ed the PBB accurately and so has the result been confirmed with several other experts, he can continue to naively believe that he owns 3 PBB. I mean, it's probably hard for someone like him to accept the fact that he had pay the price of 3 PBBs to get only 1 real deal.

Thanks King_el, Toykogasmask and Influe for the confirmation. That is what I want from the the experience guys. I am pretty sure the supplier who supply the supposed 2 "PBB" will be looking at this post as I told him to look at it.

I will be asking for him for a satisfactory solution to this.

As for tendou, I apologise for being too direct. 1 of the reason I said so is that I receive a complain from my supplier that he emailed him some nonsense and had hope he dun do that again. Its ok to email him to ask for quote, but not any other things.

Honestly, IMO most of those photos posted by taisho 75 are not clear enough to positively I.D. all the fish. Obviously there is a mix of both species in the tank. Just my opinion.
The bottom line is this, if you are not very good at identifying fish it's best to know the source of your fish and buy only from trusted sources.
I imported several Pbb a while back and although a few seemed to resemble Lapradei at first due to lower end of dorsal fin range, they were later confirmed to be true Pbb.
Even though i can positively tell wild Pbb apart from Guinea and Nigerian Laps, we never mix them togther in thesame tanks to avoid any errors or mix ups.

I still believe wild fish is the way to go if you want to be sure of the strain of what you are getting. They may not always be as "flashy" as farm raised fish but you can be sure it's either Lap or Pbb and not a hybrid.
By the way, there have not been any Lapradei collections so far around the area Chad Pbb is being collected.
