I picked up 2 peacock bass at petco. They're about 2 inches right now. I'm curious how long it will be until I can put them with my oscars that are 6 to 8 inches right now. Thanks.

That's awesome! I've had my mono close to a year now and he is probably 14" give or take. Got him at 3" and onto tilapia right away, then pellets soon after. Now he eats a diet of mainly hikari cichlid gold, and mp on occasion. Hope this helps.

Thanks that helps. I've been feeling blood worms and frozen shrimp. After they get a little bigger I'm going to try to switch them to pellets. They were 10 dollars a piece. I'm not sure if that was a good buy for that size.

I'd say it was a good price, but just remember something is only worth as much as your willing to pay for it. That is a good start, just keep them off live and you should be good to go.

Thats about the going rate for farm bred cichla. Most likely a hybrid of monoculus/ocellaris. Growth is quick a inch or so a month isn't uncommon given good water conditions and a steady diet. Small cichla can be fed multiple times a day as well, their metabolism is quite high. Don't be afraid to keep their water temperature high either, 85f is a good place but be sure you provide a lot of water surface disturbance (power filter, air pumps) because high temp=less oxygen but the higher temp cuts down on ich, another thing small cichla are prone to getting. Hope this helps, welcome

I guess I would've paid more because I didn't even think to look or ask how much they were I just said I'd take 2. When he had told me he was getting some peacocks in at first I thought he meant the african cichlids. I was really excited to find out they were peacock bass, because I had been planning on ordering some online. This was a lot cheaper and simpler though.

It is but be careful with only 2, I'd suggest 3 because yOu might encounter one picking on the other. Cichla have a hierarchy and with only 2 you might run into trouble with one harassing the other. That's my 2 cents, if you only want 2 either fish may help but in my 210 my most dominant Orino ignores the silver dollars and bullies the other 2 Orino in the tank with it. I'm hoping the 2 piquiti I'm picking up tomorrow help to even things out
