Peacock Bass Spawning

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How's the numbers still looking? I'd expect good considering you had a million of them...lol you could prolly lose half and it wouldn't be a big deal.. Out of my last spawn I have maybe 100 left :irked: but like I said I have a slacker for a male and am lucky if he even get's out of his recliner to fertilize the eggs..lol He got a little less then half I'm guessing out of this one.. But he is around 7 or 8 years old I'm guessing so I can't complain too much. I do have a few up and coming studs though in the sidelines just itching for their shot, maybe I'll let one have a go at her this next time.. Problem is even though they are all over a year and about 12"-13" they look like guppies in comparison to this 8 year old monster that's around 4 1/2" thick, 23" long and prolly weighs in at around 10 - 12lbs... Yeah he's a straight up bruiser man... That oh girl wouldn't be too impressed with these lil guys I don't think...lol Oh, what to do, what to do..

Gday mate, the numbers are still excellent. I dont really think I have lost any, not that I have seen anyway. They are all very strong and vibrant at the moment. In fact I think they have grown a lot already. I have been feeding them about 5 times a day on baby brine shrimp which they go mad for and I have just started adding a bit of dry fry food, which they sort of have a go at. I am also doing lots of water changes throughout the day on the little tanks but I am not using "new" water but taking water from the pairs tank. Bad news about your babies but really even 100 is a heap of young ones to raise. Would love to see some pics of the big male ... he must be very impressive at that size. Your probably right about swapping one of the younger males into the pair but sad to see the big fella replaced haha.

Even though prob breeding colors slightly??............Never seen this kind mind blowing red on under side of Female. Nice color!

Yeah, that pic was taken right before they bred. She get's like that every time too, then it fades until the next time.

Way kind of sand do uou have

typewriter

It's not sand brother... Monster doesn't do sand (too hard to maintain a clean tank IMO) It's the next best thing... Bare bottom all the way...Only painted (on the outside bottom) to appear as sand I paint all my tanks, both the bottom and the back.. this way the tank still has contrast and depth but without all the dirty work of siphoning gravel or sand bro.. Too easy ;)

He is one, big prize specimen Monster. What a beautiful fish and thanks for sharing. I must say that female looks spectacular too, in her red dress !!
