peacock cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay, here are some pics of the new peacock. It's weird because sometimes the fish shows great black stripes, but for the most part they are pretty faint or it looks all silver. Is this a female? There is zero aggression or anything between the two. They are almost always together now...

I got pictures of both in here, but the silver one is the new one. :headbang2

Yeah the other one is red. Anyone know how to sex these things for sure? Or are they still to small to be sure?

Venting is the only sure method. As they get bigger, males will start to color up. Molly fry is good protein:naughty:

How big must they be to vent do you think? 3"+ The red one has been colored up since I got it, probably 3 weeks now. The silver one the color comes and goes, but for the most part its only light stripes and all silver.

I plan on getting a few more in about 2 months or so, but if I find something I really like I may just pick it up. So I want to end up with 5 of them, is there anything specific I should be looking for when I check out the next 3? If I want some females should I look for something with color but fads fast? Or am I better off just getting them and figuring out it later, and hoping to end up with not all males?

Oh and as for mollie fry, I got plenty of that haha. I had to females drop about 30 on me last week :headbang2I plan on feeding most of them, but keeping 5-10 more for more reproduction :naughty:

Some females color up as they get older, but when they're small it's pretty easy to tell the difference.
