Just got a new peacock eel...I was excited at the store because they were out and about and being friendly in the tank...I thought..."HEY, MAYBE ONE WON'T BE SHY AND ACTUALLY HANG OUT IN MY TANK"...its been 2 days and he's yet to make an appearance...I can see his burrow tracks in the sand...is there anything I can do to make him more gregarious? and outgoing? I've got trout worms for him when I see him next! Any other Spiny Eel types I'll listen too also! Thanks dudes n' dudettes.

Stop worrying, your eel is acting like a regular eel. Peacock eels LOVE to burrow, but that will lesson as it gets larger. How big is it? How clean is your water? What other fish do you have in there? My new fire eel didn't eat for a week and a half after I got him and still isn't active. But now that he's eating out of my hand it's only a matter of time before it's active.
ive had mine since december and i only see him every once in a while, i had a decoration in there with a hole in it before and i literally didnt see him for a month and i forgot i had him, but he was still eating never looked thin and is still alive to this day, I wouldn't worry about it
Ive had a peacock now for a month, in my tank at my girlfriends house. I havent seen him since the day I put him in. Ive seen his head and the back end of his tail twice, and normally right after I leave my girl tells me he comes out lol. I dont no how he/ she hasnt adjusted yet
In my experience peacocks are not the most outgoing of the spineys. along with zig zags yellows ect these will bury themselves so well that even if u scan ur tank with your eyes for 2 hours lokking for a head or tail tip (like i have) u might not even see them for months at a time. mine even hides in the filter for long periods of time. try using tongs with a bllodworms cube at the end next time u see him. eventuqlly tongs can turn into hands.
I see...he's in there with a pair of rainbow eartheaters, crayfish, african knife, hujeta ch. He's prob. 3" in length. he's large enough to not be food.
3" is pretty small, I've always seen them at least 5-6in at the pet store..
and yes, I agree with everyone else..they tend to hide for a while when first introduced to the new tank... my black spotted eel didn't eat for a week or two and stayed hiden for about a month.. now he is pretty social for an eel.. and of course is all over the tank when it's feeding time.. gl with yours..
