I bought a couple of peacocks. They are blue and yellow, but one is really pale and the other almost looks black but you can see faint blue and yellow. The ones that the guy I bought them from had were really bright, could this be because they were breeding? Will they ever get bright if I don't breed them?

Africans. When I got the first one it wasn't bright when I was there, but the guy said that it would get brighter when I put it in a tank with some plants and stuff to chill it out because it was in a totally bare tank when I bought it. It did get darker because when I first put him in my tank it was just gray like a female but now it looks black w/faint cobalt blue coloring and a faint yellow band by the back of it's head. I've had this one for about four months, it gets along with the jack dempseys. I just bought another one today that is a smaller blue peacock. It has a yellow head and blue body, but is very pale. I know it will be pale for awhile after putting it in a new tank, but it was even pale at the store. Will it get more vibrant as it gets older?
If we're talking about African Peacocks, then what size are they? Of course their colours depend on their mood, so if they're stressed, they fade...but they also take a long time to colour up, if they do. Usually, only the very dominant males will colour up, and females are almost always brown.
