Peak Oil the end of fishkeeping???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My father is a chemical engineer. He reads all sorts of scientific reports and crap, and is very into this kind of stuff. He recently discussed with me the new era of energy that could possibly be reached before the end of our lifetime. It had to do with Nucleur fusion anid splitting atoms, in order to create a self-sufficient energy. Apparantly, this new source of energy would have a cost ratio in comparison to gas at about a 1 to 10 level, being very cheap.

However, the conversion process would be a monumental blow to the national debt, and something that we could never pull out of. It would cause our entire country to be weakened, and susceptible to attack. It was also told that the release of the new enmergy would ruin the economy, due to the fact that so much of the stock market and world-wide industries are in direct connection with the oil industry. It would send our stock-market into a downward spiral, which would have effects on more things than just oil and energy. It would basically send our entire economy into a downfall, and our country could possibly be at risk for invasion, and our only defense would be nuclear warfare which is not a good idea at this point.

Do I know if any of this is completely factual? I don't know. I'm repeating a discussion that took place based on a scientific report only dismissed to involved scientists themselves..

Will it effect our hobby? Of course.. Any national turmoil will cause any hobby or interest that is 'not a necessity' to be for the most part, Banished. Only the hardcore fish keepers, such as ourselves, will even attempt to keep our beloved pets. If any sort of depression hits our states, pet stores will be the first to go. Importers will disappear, and even the corporate pet chains will be at risk. It could be bad. The price of acrylic has already skyrocketed due to the overseas problems. The current war is an obvious attempt to gain control of what seems to be our last resource before such an event will happen. I don't know when it will happen, but I believe I will witness it before I leave this place.

Ok i need to quir drinkin and go to bed. damn i type good when i try :)

edit; fixed typos

There are several alternatives already available and at least one is actually pretty easy to convert to, Bio diesel. There are also huge deposits of methane not to mention that it is very easy to manufacture.

sooner were off fossil fuels and help to stop methane, CO2 and all the pollutants that go with it the better. we do need a new energy source.

I know, we could build a windmill. Or, a big wheel that is turned by the current of a river and generates electricity!

Remember Soylent Green?

Yeah, looked like algae pellets. Atleast my plecos will be happy when that time comes.

Personally I'm not worried about this whole energy thing.
Peanut_Power will save us all:grinyes:

anyone heard much of the new global dimming problem, its always been around, but has only just reached the media?
