Pearl Rays, shall I take the dive??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Only thing i noticed that my pearls like to hunt at nighttime so i use a small nightlite.
If i forget to turn it one my cichlas are totaly stressed in the morning.
Never had this problem whit my other rays

they seem to grow slower than motoros and even leos.. atleast mine does.. but then again, I'm not an expert at all, I just stumbled over a pair.. sort of picky (not flower/tiger picky) and slow growers..

From my investigation/experience with Pearls, they max out around 24" same as Leo and others. My pair have been the most hearty rays I have had. my female is around 2 yrs. The male, is somewhere close to that. Female is 11" now male 10" and mature. Will they grow huge...time will tell, but I dont think so. Mine are not agressive maybe a bit skittish at times. For comparison, my femael Motoro is 2.5 yrs old and 15+". Definitely my favorite rays. There are different types light/dark base, crocodile, 5 star. Here in the US, it seems the light base are most common. The rest are rare. IMO they all turn out nice and the pattern seems to constantly change into adulthood.

Cool. Anyone know an easy bank to hit up for 1500$?
:'(

Pearls get quite large. Mike (H2O) had a colony for sale a while back. I believe the sizes ranged from 18-26". Think motoro size as previously posted.

I have been keeping and breeding Pearls for a number of years now, I only have one female that has hit the 19-20" disc mark all the others are quite a bit smaller. This girl has been this size for the past few years and she is swimming in a 12ft x 3ft footprint tank.
This pair is the exact same size as my original AAA pair of Marbles and they are 18 years of age.
So my answer is they attain a smaller size to normal Potamotrygon motoro.
18-20" for a female and 15-16" for a male would be the norm , however there are always exceptions with all species due to varying water parameters, diet and space.
Hope this helps!
