take the bluegill out an panfry it an buy a fish that is ment to be in a aquarium :)

If you dont care for the native fish hobby, then that must mean thousands of native fish keepers and The entire membership of the North American Native Fishes Assn, Must be wrong

Actually NO fish is Meant to be kept in an aquarium, We choose to do that as humans that have taken that liberty with the planets resources to suit ourselves.

However since you dont seem to approve, does that mean i should just completely abandon my hobby, and start keeping whatever you choose for me

Or better yet take your self to another forum ;)

As long as you offer any other tasty treats like earthworms etc. the sunnys wont think they have to accept pellets or starve. Ive had best luck with just offering a few pellets each day til they decide to eat them, I use hikari floating pellets, or cichlid Gold floating, Once they are taking the pellets, you can offer a treat of worms, shrimp, mysis, etc, as a treat food only.

Got it dude. He just started snapping them up. Hunger wins the day. Honestly when I first got him I bought him 30 rosies because he wasn't eating and I wanted him to get used to the tank and his surroundings, so I figured I would first let him eat by instinct. As he picked them off I was feeding the Rosies flake food and he was taking snaps at the surface checking the food out. Maybe seeing the feeders react to it helped. After the feeders disappeared he made more and more attempts at the food until finally, last night, he took pellets without spitting them out. Honestly that was much easier than I thought and I hope it is for you too. It was only about 5 days before he got it. I got lucky. Nice.

Thanks for the replies!

I finally got my bluegill to eat two cichlid sticks today as he spit out cichlid bio gold floating pellets over and over again. He took a massivore delight again and spit it out, then went back to it, spit it out, then gave up. A few minutes later he came over to it on the bottom and went for it and turned away at the last second. The pumpkinseed takes the cichlid sticks, breaks them into two or three pieces in her mouth, and then spits it out. Did this twice.

Once they figure out thats all they are gonna get, they will eat pellets, sticks, whatever.

That is the way it seems. I still can't get my SMB to eat anything. He ate a bunch of minnows that I had in there before him. They have been gone for about a week now. He doesn't come up to me or even go for the worms that I would throw in for the sunnies. I don't know how I am ever going to pellet train him.

Do you have your lights on alot??? some natives are very sensitive to light when trying to acclimate to the new enviornment of a small glass box. I wouldnt even turn the lights on at all for a couple of weeks, let him chill out.
