Lmao i assure you old timer, today’s top pellet brands are essentially the same ****, this is fish, nobody is talking about champion dogs LOL, feel free to feed what makes you feel better that’s all that matters, sheep.

Some people love and treat their fish like champions, even if they're really not -- in fact I would say every fish deserves such consideration, but that's just my personal thinking. (and some people have fish that cost as much or more than champion dogs, like Asian Arowana, wink wink).

I will admit that I mostly use Hikari, because it's pretty much the best we can get here locally, but I will also readily admit that I'm not happy with the amount/type of fillers Hikari uses, and have no doubt whatsoever that foods like NLS and Northfin are significantly better from an ingredients standpoint, really no comparision at all.

To the OP, I feed NLS, Omega One and Hikari. I feel NLS and Omega One have better ingredients and less filler than the Hikari but my fish seem to love it. I would just stick with what you're feeding if it's working. Maybe add some fresh veggies.

Yep, and therein lies the kinda of frustrating point that while most of us can agree Hikari's ingredients are not as good as the other top brands, the fact is most fish just love the stuff. For fussy fish or those that are often hard to get onto pellets like Datnoids, Aros & Pbass, it seems Hikari products such as Floating Sticks and Sinking Carnivore/Massivore are the go-to food with the highest chance to get your fish onto pellets. With such fish I'd maybe start with Hikari and then later try to add or transition over to something better like NLS.

Btw, has anyone else tried Ocean Nutrition pellets? I can't find NLS or Omega One here but a couple of shops in Bangkok have these pellets. I use their Formula 1 & 2 Marine pellets in addition to the Hikari, and the ingredient lists are pretty good. Other positive is that the latest versions don't include Ethoxyquin as an ingredient. Of course they have freshwater, Cichlid, etc. formulas but the ingredient list with the marine forumulas is a bit better quality (and costs a little more).

Funny ive never had any of my fish like the hikari carnivore products. Even small fish wouldnt take the little carnivore wafers. NLS is a good food my guys love it but i prefer a little variety. All new fish are being forced to accept hikari and OO along with NLS. I dont like how NLS seems to not have standard pellet sizes for all the formulas and the larger sized pellets really arent that large and seem harder to get. The only formula with decent sized pellets that actually sink for me was mega fish which i think has been changed to Giant 10mm still on the smaller side. Everything else floats for awhile... not cool when you have overflows to deal with.
ThereA , algaemax , float, megafish/giant all come in different sized pellets instead of the same sizes across the board.

I’ve usually stood by NLS as my go to staple though my Trimac a reacquired has not liked them but devours Bugbites.

Im gonna throw in my lot for aquatic foods and blackworm inc. You can get their pellets and flakes on amazon in 4 oz. up to 5 lbs. Packages. There is a pretty large selection of foods and variety packs of different pellets and flakes. Their stuff always seems a lot "fresher" than dry foods you'll find at the store. All my fish seem to love their stuff whereas ive had problems getting every fish to accept other brands staple pellets. Probably best of all the prices are very reasonable.

Ocean nutrition isn't bad imo. I've used it and seaweed in the past. Its especially good with finicky fish from my experience. I can't remember what size pellets they have.
