durring cleaning, some air may enter & some water will fall, but just until the water level in the 55 is again above the highest hole.. once the 55 is re-filled, the pump will pull the air out...

So basically the sealed cube acts as a kind of vacum holding the water up. Cool, should be interesting to see once its done.

i was just wondering how much of a pain it would be to refill the penthouse if you accidentally drain it while doing water changes?
also i wondered if you can get clear tubing that will be stong enough to support the penthouse?
 
there is no way this thing will work

its actually not hard at all to refill, all you have to do is use a wet vac or somthing and suck the air out, the lack of air will cause a vacuum and draw watter up into the box. theres a vid on youtube about how the guy who connected 5 tanks with water bridges(same concept as the box) filled his bridges with a wetvac by sucking the air out.
