I understand the need to capture and cull a certain number every year. If not, their numbers would become huge. Same with deer hunting. I have no problem with that. But, 33,000?? They don't have to kill all of them. That is just rediculous. Killing them is not the only solution...

yes cull, and do the weekest or oldest and only keep the strongest

They can sterilize and release them.

good thinking batman...that completly eclipsed my thought lol
but i spose they dont have the money now. they have put themselves in a position where they will have to kill them anyway and still sell their meat

that wouuld cost more than killing all of them. think about the man hours of catching them, then having a qualified equine vet perform surgery on every one of them. if your gonna catch them anyways, then why not pay some guy min wage to dispatch them? thats how any government agency will see it

I want to know why they are wasting the money to capture and kill all the wild horses. It says they have run out of money to feed them so their going to kill them but why did they brother to round them up in the first place.
i know. don't get me wrong, im all for the elimination of invasive species but my god this is insane! these horses have become part of the ecosystem they live in and haven't destroyed it so theyre fine. plus theyre spending our money! in this "economic crisis" were spending money on THIS? im pissed.

they have NOT become part of the ecosystem. they have been influential in changing the ecosystem by eliminating edible plant species that used to thrive before the horses got there

i know.. maybe they did not have perfect comformation.. maybe the breeder did not like the color...maybe the breeder did not like that it would not be tall.. all kinds of good horses end up going to the slaughter house.. sometimes it is a college student .. who cannot afford her horse anymore..the parents think the person who came to buy the horse want it for their child.. but they are actually meat men.. getting a good profit for a horse that the person thought was going to a good home.. i could list many things.. but educating people is the best thing we can do.. check out buyers.. of all your beloved pets.... the best you can.. it can make the difference between life and death for that pet..

Due to the way horse society is structured, sterilizing each horse would not be necessary. Just sterilizing some herd stallions would help reduce populations.
