OK, these horses were not native. Thing is there were horses native to the US before that were wiped out. Way I see it people re-introduced horses.

there were not horses in north america, unless youre talking about 52-45 million years ago.

heres a fairly adequate representation of the evolution of horses. http://chem.tufts.edu/science/evolution/HorseEvolution.htm

the things that were here were NOT horses. to say that Mesohippus was a horse is the same as saying that T-Rexes are emus

Exactly! That's what I am saying...if they do it already, why is there the need to slaughter 33,000 of them??
because they only set up adoption programs for a few.. of the many.. i am thankful for as many that get adopted as possible ..also the grayhound dogs.. etc etc..so many animals.. not just horses..all deserve better..

because they are reproducing faster than people can adopt them. not everyone wants to deal with a wild mangy horse thats afraid of people...

if they want a horse in the beginning then they would

Who cares if they are native?? Horses are used all over the country...it is not like they serve no purpose. You talk about wild pigs that aren't native...they serve no purpose...they just tear up the ground...horses serve a purpose therefore they shouldn't just be disposed of. There are many other options besides slaughter. Showing the evolution of horses doesn't change the fact that horses are here now, and they are not a nuisance species. There is no need to get rid of them for they serve a purpose...

but why would you want to adopt a horse that has all kinds of parasites, diseases and mange from the wild when you can get a healthy one from the humane society?

As I said before, I understand the need to cull the weak and old. As for no one wanting to adopt a wild mangy horse that is afraid of people...that is why they should round up and adopt out the yearlings... It is very easy to gain the trust of a young horse...

because of the love that, that horse will give u. i did it and unfortunatly i had to give the horse away coz i was pregnant. and that horse was (sad to say) my best friend. u build a bond and the feel of being rewarded that horse gives u just from being healthy and trotting over the field to u even if u havnt got food makes it all worth while

im not saying to slaughter workhorses, or riding horses, or pet horses. i dont want to take some little girls pony and slaughter it. im talking about a non-native destructive animal. have you ever been close to a true wild horse? have you ever seen the parasites that live in and on them? have you ever tried to treat a wild horse for a disease that will kill it, but not been able to because it wont let you get close enough? they are not "serving a purpose" other than to destroy the habitat for the native animals
